NEW YEAR, NEW BAG

Last school year I alternated between taking a tote bag and my rolling cart to and from school.  This year I wanted something better.  I don't want to use the rolling cart this year at all.  For one thing, it's too big.  For another thing, I don't want to take as much work home this year.  The tote bag was smaller, but I noticed that my important papers would end up bent or wrinkled.  I needed something different!  A teacher friend told me to check out Thirty-one bags. I did, and I found the perfect bag for me!

I started with the "Organizing Utility Tote" in Turquoise.  This bag has lots of handy pockets on the outside!

I added the "Fold N' File" in "Party Punch".  This will hold hanging file folders nicely!

Then I added the "Pocket-A-Tote" in hot pink to hold smaller things on the inside.  It can attach to the front or the back of the main tote.  I may not need it with all of the pockets on the bag, but if not, I know I can find lots of uses for this!

And here is the finished bag! It is ready for some hanging file folders for papers to grade, important papers, planner, gradebook, lessons, etc...  Nice and organized!

CHAIR FOOTIES

My classroom has tile floor, and very little wall insulation between classrooms.  So this year I am making Chair Footies for my student chairs!  This will eliminate much of the chair scraping noises, and keep the floor a bit cleaner!

I found this tutorial on-line, which explains it all perfectly!

I purchased felt rectangles at Hobby Lobby for 25 cents each.  They had a ton of colors to choose from.  I chose blue and yellow to match my classroom curtains.  Each felt rectangle needs to be cut into thirds.  I bought 40 pieces to make feet for 30 chairs.  Total cost = $10!

I think the hardest part will be actually putting the felt and rubberbands around every chair foot in my room, but in the end, it will all be worth it.  Maybe this is a good project for a volunteer!!!

IT'S TIME FOR THIRD!

This time last year, I was eagerly looking forward to moving up to Second Grade, after years and years in First Grade.  A few weeks before school started, I was informed that my class would actually be a First and Second Combo Class.  Well, I survived that, and now I am looking forward to moving up to Third Grade!

After teaching a combo class, this year will be so different!  Instead of being required to teach 2 grade levels worth of material to one class, I will only have to teach a few subjects to 2 classes. In essence, it will be 1/4 of the planning and prep that I had to do last year!  I will be teaching Math and Science to two Third Grade classes.  I will also have Social Studies and a 30 minute Reading Intervention Block with my homeroom class.   Although I will be responsible for the state math test, I feel that overall this year will be much less stressful than last year!  Yay!

This summer I have added some new activities to my Teachers Pay Teachers store.  Check them out!   Click on the pictures or visit my TPT store at: http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/Just-A-Second
